if you got some krafting skills and a few chunks of material and two springs you could make this. i smiled when i read about the FRANKENFADER idea on the midibox forums and it inspired this design using a potentiometer. i am gonna draw this up in cad with real dimensions i think and build 1 or a few for my midibox project...

this is the test run of the gcode we have produced to run on our mini cnc and mill/drill out a pcboard for this project. this test run was done with an ink pen and a piece of paper to verify that it wouldn't crash my machine with a live tool and to make sure the traces would come out in the right places/dimensions. we manually used a green marker for the "drill" tool in this test. so far it looks as if everything will fit where it should!
this is the g-code (formatted for the EMC2 CNC control software) and a screenshot of it loaded up in AXIS on my CNC control BOX. the code was produced with eagle and the pcb_gcode script. if you use this code let me know how it turns out! (be sure to double check the traces as i have not yet at this point assembled my own board for testing. THIS FILE IS PROGRAMMED TO USE A .010 inch cutter! (ten thousandths of an inch) THE Z DEPTH IS PROGRAMMED AT -.010 i think... DOUBLE CHECK IT! DON'T JUST BLINDLY RUN THIS CODE ON YOUR CNC!
i recently decided to swap out the OS (it was XP) in my amd 64 bit machine out to Ubuntu 8.04 x86_64. along the way there has been a few bumps in getting everything working the way i want. i will be listing any commands here in this thread that i happen to find useful in case i wanna set up another box the same way and then i won't have to keep digging through the internet each time. maybe you will find them useful as well? if you have any commands that you think should be listed here, add them in the comments section!
the first awesome command line is:
